La Tasca, DC

La Tasca

Washington DC

When Sarah was in DC last week we headed to La Tasca, a Spanish tapas style restaurant. We ordeered 4 tapas, bread and wine. We stuck to vegetable and seafood dishes. I've had better paella, but if it weren't tapas size and vegetarian I'd give it another try. The fried potatoes were great and the scallop (?) with bell pepper was amazing. I will definitely go back.

A few girls from my program absolutely love Scythian so after class we headed over to the pub they play on Thursdays. The food was typical pub food - greasy and good. I had mini-burgers and deep fried portabella mushroom sticks. Yummy! I'd definetly go back during lunch and have a more full meal. Did find a beer I like - Snake Bite, a combo of cider and ale. And the band was amazing.

Had the Dorado a la Verzcruzana, a pan roasted mahi-mahi, black olive, caper, caramelized onion & avocado salsa, sweet plantain and potato mash. The fish was done really well in that it didn't taste very fishy. I sampled everyone else's dish and I have to say: don't pass on the sweet plantain and potato mash! So good! The vibe is very mellow with candles and caribbean music. It's a smaller restuarant, but the atmosphere is well worth it. The mojitos are absolutely wonderful - very fresh and minty.

Entrees about $20-$30, definitely a restaurant for a special occasion.

The resturant was more posh then I expected so nice clothing is a good idea. I had the lasagna - a meal that should be split between 2 or 3 people. Oh so good! The lasagna had panchetta and mushrooms, so not so vegetarian friendly. I also split a caprese salad - the mozzarella was to large for the slices of tomato - and carpacio (thinly sliced raw beef marinated. The meat wasn't marinated long enough so the flavor was missing).

For 3 people the bill was $50. Really reasonably priced for 3 entrees and 2 appetizers.
